Google Play on Google TV

Google TV owners in Europe have been given the ability to buy or rent music and movies from the Google Play store, just over a month after the feature made its debut in the United States. France, Germany, and the United Kingdom will be able to enjoy the service from November 13, Google announced on Friday.

Not all of these countries can enjoy Google Play Music on their Android-powered smartphones and tablets yet, but if Google now has the necessary licensing agreements in place to bring the service to Google TV, we’re fairly certain other devices will get the same support sooner rather than later.

Google also stated that movies and music would be coming to Google TV users in Canada and Australia on November 13, too. But it later updated its announcement on Google+ to make it clear that only the three countries mentioned above will be supported, while others will get it later:

We’re sorry for an earlier post that said we’re launching in more countries on 11/13, but stay tuned as we’re bringing Google Play to more countries all the time.

That’s going to be disappointing news to those in Canada and Australia, but at least it’s a good indication that Google is working to bring the service your way.
