- Some of the games it announced were Baldur's Gate 3, Ghost Reacon Breakpoint, The Division 2, and Destiny 2.
Google held its official announcement of Stadia today giving us the last bits of information about the upcoming gaming streaming service. We finally learned pricing, games, and streaming quality.
You will be able to use Stadia on just about any device possible: desktop, tablet, and phone, though that's limited to Pixel 3 devices at launch. Chromecast will also be compatible. Just connect it to your TV and you'll be able to gaming in your living room.
Google confirmed that gamers can play Stadia with a internet connection speed as low as 5Mbps. Of course that only gets you 720p quality, but it is possible. The faster your data connection, the better the streaming quality. You'll need a 35Mbps connection for the best gaming experience. Here's a full breakdown of streaming quality.
When Stadia launches later this year, it'll be available with two different tiers: Stadia Pro and Stadia Base. Stadia Pro is a $9.99 monthly subscription that lets users play any game available on the service with the best streaming quality: 4K, HDR, 60FPS, HDR, and 5.1 audio. You'll need at least a 30Mbps connection speed and the proper hardware. Gamers will just need to buy the games to play them. Unfortunately, Google did not reveal how much individual games will cost on Stadia.
Stadia Base lets you buy individual games and play them on Stadia without needing a monthly subscription. This does limit the quality of streaming down to 1080p and stereo sound. The Base plan won't be available launch either. It'll launch some time in 2020.
It's unclear which plan one is better at this point. Obviously you have to pay more for the better quality, but is it really worth it? It'll be up to gamers to decide that. Gaming on just about any device and at 4K quality will be very convinient, which could nudge users for the Stadia Pro monthly subscription.
Google also took the opportunity to announced some of the games that will be coming to Stadia including Baldur's Gate 3, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Gylt, Get Packed, The Division 2, and Destiny 2. That goes along with some of the others games that have been rumored like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the Tomb Raider trilogy, Doom and many more which were confirmed in a montage.
For a limited time, Google is offering a special Stadia Founder's Edition bundle that will come with a Chromecast Ultra, limited edition Stadia Controller in Night Blue, three months of Stadia Pro, exclusive Stadia name, Destiny 2 exclusive content, and buddy pass, which lets you give a friend three free months of Stadia Pro, all for $129.
