Let Google decide if your face matches a museum's portrait

Just as everyone was heading off for the weekend, Google rolled out a pretty neat update to its Arts & Culture app. Often the app is used for anyone wanting to explore, well, arts and culture. It acts as a hub for people, places, and events that shaped our world. Without stepping foot anywhere physically, you’re able to visit over 1,200 locations around the world to view exhibits. Now you’re also allowed to compare yourself with the artwork.

Google’s latest update for the app adds a new feature letting anyone see what masterpieces their selfies look like.

Here’s an example, which comes from a familiar face:

Just put the app on your phone, swipe down to the selfie-to-portrait section, and upload a picture of yourself. Google’s Arts & Culture app analyzes the selfie and matches you with several portraits. Aside from seeing the portrait’s name and artist, you’ll get to see how much of a match it really is. Then you’ll be able to virtually visit the exhibit from wherever you are.

Also, there’s an option to share your selfie and match to social media. The craze on platforms like Twitter made the Arts & Culture app the most popular in the U.S. over the weekend. Everyone from celebrities to everyday people are sharing their results.

It’s completely free to get started, and Google reminds us that the feature is experimental currently. So don’t take any unflattering matches to heart.
