Google Duo is, as the company has described, “a simple 1-to-1 video calling app available for Android and iOS.” It’s doing well so far.

Its aim is to dumb down video calling as much as possible, though not in those words, of course. “Duo takes the complexity out of video calling, so that you can be together in the moment wherever you are.”

That philosophy of stripped down and simplified video calling is a success so far. Google CEO Sundar Pichai tweeted the news that Duo had exceeded 5 million Android downloads alone in its first week.

I haven’t tried Duo yet, admittedly. I’m personally more excited for Allo, but this download place has piqued my interest for the video calling app from Google.

What do you think of Duo’s simplistic take on video calling?
