Apple iOS 6 Maps

Is Google upset Apple decided to ditch Google Maps in iOS 6 for its own mapping solution? Maybe, but the company isn't jumping through hoops for Apple anytime soon. Google chairman Eric Schmidt spoke to the press recently in Tokyo and discussed Apple's move and took a small jab at the company.

"We think it would have been better if they had kept ours," Schmidt said, referring to Google Maps. "But what do I know? What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It's their call." It's true, though, what could Google do to force Apple to keep its mapping service, even if it is superior to what Apple currently offers?

As it turns out, Google isn't rushing to get its iOS app out the door anytime soon.

"We have not done anything yet," Schmidt said, in response to a question as to whether or not Google had submitted the application for approval in Apple's iTunes App Store. Google still provides support for search within iOS 6, but its YouTube and Maps applications were removed. The company has already developed a new YouTube app, however.
