Monkey Island 2 has become something of a bastion for the old LucasArts point-and-click adventure classics. The latest update adds five more from the SCUMM engine's legendary library as well LucasArts' attempt to make a western DOOM clone. See the whole list of new games below.

  • Outlaws + A Handful of Missions
  • Zak McKracken And The Alien Mindbenders
  • Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
  • Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge
  • The Dig
  • Loom

Each of the games is available for a launch discount, so be sure to snag them up if you like DRM free versions of amazing classics.

Of course, Monkey Island 2 is the best of the bunch and one of the greatest point-and-click adventure games ever made. Many lament its cryptic and disappointing ending, but the journey there at least is one of the funniest written in video gaming history. The HD graphics from the remake are nice but more of a novelty than anything. Nothing can re-capture the magic of SCUMM's original animation.

I'm also a big fan of LOOM. LucasArts' stab at the fantasy genre is almost as clever as Monkey Island, but more emphasis is put on music and scenery rather than humor. It's a beautiful game.

Zak McKracken And The Alien Mindbenders was the second game created using the SCUMM engine after Maniac Mansion, and it's kind of a sophomore slump. Very funny, but brutally challenging. This was created before LucasArts decided to remove "death" and un-winnable situations from the adventure game genre. Only masochists will enjoy it anymore.

As for The Dig and Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, I've never played them. I do know that this is not the Indiana Jones game you are looking for, though. Let's hope and pray that GoG can dig up The Fate of Atlantis, the very best Indiana Jones story outside of the original trilogy.

And there is Outlaws. I only played the demo in an old demo pack from LucasArts, but I remember it being a really difficult first-person shooter with a cartoonish western aesthetic. I'd like to give it a shot again if I can get around to it.
