Godzilla: King of the Monsters is set to be a crazy mash-up of some of our favorite kaiju, including Godzilla and Rodan. The first two trailers have done a great job of establishing the destruction that Earth is about to experience, as well as setting the tone for how menacing these kaiju are. In case you thought they couldn’t look anymore badass, director Michael Dougherty released a new image of King Ghidorah, and it’s the coolest thing you’ll see today.
If you’re unfamiliar with King Ghidorah, it’s a three-headed dragon-like monster with gigantic wings, and Godzilla’s greatest adversary ever.
The image posted on Twitter shows off a menacing King Ghidorah in flight chomping at the opportunity to take down an airplane. The environment makes the scene that much more impressive. A lightning strike creates an eerie yellow glow all the while rain pours down.
Judging from the looks of it, it seems to be the same airplane that serves as a heli-carrier for Monarch that will likely be destroyed. It’s not clear if that happens at the hands of King Ghidorah in the scene in question or at the hands of another kaiju.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters on May 31, 2019.
