If you’re as excited as I am for Sony’s PlayStation Vita, it’s time to book your tickets to Tokyo! Hiroshi Kawano, the head of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, revealed in a blog post today that mere mortals like you and I will have the opportunity to get our hands on the Vita at the Tokyo Game Show this September.PlayStation Vita

Kawano said that there will be many opportunities to experience the company’s next-generation handheld, and added that questions on its release date, launch line-up and more will be answered shortly.

The PS Vita, for those of you who don’t know much about it, is Sony’s successor to the PlayStation Portable, and it boasts a plethora of new features that are sure to make it one of the most groundbreaking handheld consoles for some time — and arguably more exciting than Nintendo’s 3DS.

Firstly, its dual analogue sticks alone, I think, are going to make for far better gaming, especially when it comes to first-person shooters. There’s also a 5-inch OLED touchscreen display at a resolution of 960 x 544, two touch panels on the back, front- and rear-facing cameras, 3G connectivity, and “the most advanced CPU in its class.”

If you’re not already dying to get your hands on this console, go check out the leaked screenshots for Uncharted and Wipeout.
