Here’s an alluring sales pitch from Microsoft aimed at people, like me, who are on the fence about picking up an Xbox One this year. How about a nice bundle featuring a free copy of Gears of War Ultimate Edition?

Gears of War producer Rod Fergusson announced the bundle at San Diego Comic Con, saying that Gears of War Ultimate Edition will come with “every Xbox One sold” starting on Aug. 25. Microsoft followed him up with a statement, saying:

“At yesterday’s ‘Gears of War’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Rod Fergusson stated that every Xbox One sold starting Aug. 25 would include a copy of ‘Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.’ To clarify, only the Xbox One ‘Gears of War: Ultimate Edition’ Bundle will include a copy of ‘Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.’ We’re committed to offering gamers a variety of choices to help them jump into the current generation of gaming this year and are excited to offer the Xbox One ‘Gears of War: Ultimate Edition’ Bundle next month.”

The bundle of course comes with the a downloadable code for the game, no physical version, a 500GB hard drive, and an Xbox One wireless controller. Other perks include a multiplayer skin for Cole, hopefully his football getup, and access to the Gears of War 4 beta test whenever that goes live. All this for just $349.99, the same price as the normal Xbox One. Good thing I waited! I get a free game!

Ain’t nothing like a free game!

Actually, I’m sure this bundle means for many Xbox owners that Gears of War will be the first game they own for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One! Let that sink for a minute in your mind! Behold the magical time-bending powers of remakes and remasters. I don’t fall into that category since I bought Dead Rising and Rainbow Six: Vegas before snatching up Gears of War.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition Xbox One Bundle launches on Aug 25. The game itself launches individually on that day for both the Xbox One and PC.
