Gearbox is back with another shooter that will mess with formulas and add unconventional hybrid mechanics to the mix. No, this is not another RPG shooter like Borderlands 3 nor is this another MOBA shooter like Battleborn or Overwatch. This is a brand new game that looks to combine shooters with a collectible card game.
The game sounds a lot like the recently revitalized shooter Phantom Dust on the Xbox and Xbox One, another game which used deck building and shooter mechanics.
Project 1v1 is the code name for Gearbox’s top-secret, in-development, competitive first-person shooter that combines the action of fast-paced 1v1 first-person combat with the metagame strategy of a collectible card game
Currently, the only hint of the game looks like concept art found on the official website. Gearbox states that a test will be underway later this year, which you can sign up for.
Project 1v1 will be holding a short Closed Technical Test this summer. We are looking for a limited number of players to test the online infrastructure and learn what players like you think about the game in order to inform and influence future development. The test will be held on North American servers, so international players may experience decreased performance.
Players will be able to advance through “crates containing new cards.” No further news or information about the game exists. We’ll let you know when Gearbox has more.
