It looks like soon you’ll be able to trade your tablet in at GameStop. In an interview with Gamasutra this week the retailer announced plans to accept tablet trade-ins at its stores later this year, which also mean you’ll have the opportunity to purchase a discounted tablet at the store as well. The pilot version of the program is going on in five Dallas stores already.

According to company president Tony Bartel, the company is also considering making its own tablet. “If we can work with our partners and the OEMs and they come up with a great tablet that is enabled with a great gaming experience and coupled with a Bluetooth controller, then there’s no need to go out and develop our own,” he says. “But if we can’t find one that’s great for gaming, then we will create our own.”

The company also reportedly wants to start selling tablet games beyond those that are currently offered in smartphone app stores. The games would be more expensive than the games currently offered in app stores, but less expensive than your typical $60 console game.

What do you think about GameStop getting into tablets? Would you buy a used tablet from the retailer? What would you pay, for instance, for a first-generation iPad?
