HBO's much-anticipated prequel to Game of Thrones has cast its lead actor. According to numerous reports, Oscar nominated actor Naomi Watts (King Kong) will play a socialite whose name is still being kept secret.
A previously released synopsis for the show revealed audiences would be taken back thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world's descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros's history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it's not the story we think we know.
The show is still very much in the planning stages. Production isn't slated to begin until early next year, while the cast needs to be filled out. Which means it'll be a while until we see HBO release its Game of Thrones prequel.
That being said, audiences are still waiting for the final season of Game of Thrones, which is expected to debut in the spring of 2019.
