It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new about Samsung’s rumored AMOLED tablet, but a new report from SamMobile offers a full list of expected hardware for the high-end tablet including a few new details. The device, allegedly called the Galaxy Tab S, will apparently kick off a new series of high-end Android slates designed to complement the company’s Galaxy S lineup of flagship smartphones.
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Tab S will offer a 2560×1600-pixel AMOLED display and feature the same fingerprint reading technology found in the Galaxy S5. The device will apparently come in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch models and pack an Octa-core Exynos 5 processor, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera and 3GB of RAM. The new tablet’s design should resemble the recently-announced Galaxy Tab 4 series and come with a new flip cover accessory.
Beyond its AMOLED display and beefed up specs, there’s little to set the rumored Galaxy Tab S apart from Samsung’s current lineup of tablets. However, SamMobile notes that the company has one extra trick planned for the fingerprint sensor, which will reportedly support multi-user login letting you jump straight to your individual account by simply swiping your finger across the home button. Hopefully Samsung is able to improve on the technology, which felt pretty half-baked on the Galaxy S5.
The device will come in Wi-Fi and LTE models and run Android 4.4.2. We don’t know when the Galaxy Tab S will launch or how much it will cost.
