Way back in 2011 Samsung introduced its first tablet with an AMOLED display, the Galaxy Tab 7.7, and it hasn’t included AMOLED tech in its tablets since then. Now it seems pretty clear that the company is about to change that with the introduction of a new AMOLED tablet, the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. SamMobile published a couple of images of the device today, and we see some of the design elements first introduced on the Galaxy S5 have been carried over.
At first I thought the photos were fake: the device looks almost identical to the NotePro 12.2 tablet that Samsung introduced earlier this year, and I can’t really notice the AMOLED colors popping in the image. However, the backside shows the dead giveaway that this is a new tablet from Samsung, particularly due to the Band-Aid-like dimpled design that was introduced on the Galaxy S5.
Truth be told, we don’t hate it that much; it has a soft touch and the white version has a nice pearly glimmer. The small nubs on the back look terrible, though, and we’re not really sure why they are necessary.
SamMobile says we can expect an octa-core Exynos 5420 processor, a super sharp 2560 x 1600-pixel display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel camera up front, LTE support in some markets, Android 4.4 KitKat and more. We don’t know anything about pricing or a launch date just yet, but expect to hear more soon.
