Samsung and Barnes & Noble announced a new partnership on Thursday in which Samsung will begin to sell its Galaxy Tab 4 tablets with Barnes & Noble NOOK co-branding. The device will be sold under the "Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK" moniker and is a direct move away from Barnes & Noble's old business model of selling its own Android-powered NOOK tablets.

It sounds as though there are plans to offer several sizes, as Barnes & Noble frequently referred to "devices" in the partnership announcement, though the two companies will start with a co-branded 7-inch version of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 4. The tablet will ship pre-loaded with Barnes & Noble software for access to its digital bookstore. The book retailer said it will focus on building out its content offering in the future and will rely on Samsung to manufacture the hardware in an effort to cut its costs. Barnes & Noble will continue to sell its NOOK Glowlight product.

The new Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK will launch in August and will be available in more than 700 Barnes & Noble stores across the United States. We'll try to get our hands on one soon to provide more information on the experience, and how Barnes & Noble's software differs from its standalone application, which is already available for Android devices.
