One of the main areas in which the Galaxy S8 didn’t introduce a huge upgrade was with its camera. Samsung opted to keep the same 12-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization found in the already great Galaxy S7. What Samsung did do was add a few minor improvements under the hood with software. This will help with image processing once a picture is taken.
The primary competition the Galaxy S8 will face with incoming flagship smartphones is from the LG G6. The G6 is quite similar to the S8. It sports a similar display that nearly eliminates bezels and it too has a similar glass on glass design fused together by a metal band for a premium finish. The main distinguishing feature is the G6’s dual-camera system. That breaks down to a 13-megapixel main camera with f/1.8 aperture and a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/2.4 aperture.
On paper it would seem like the G6 would win the battle hands down, but does that sentiment hold up in real life?
We’ve had the G6 for a few weeks, but we’ve only had the S8 for a few days. We’re not quite ready to make the decisive decision on which camera is better. We took a few pictures using both devices that show off the detail and quality the cameras deliver. You can check out the gallery down below and decide which Android flagship takes better images.
