Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones during its Mobile World Congress press conference on March 1. Several leaks have already suggested that we'll see some of the finest hardware Samsung has ever created, including a metal body, Samsung's brand new Exynos processor and more. On Wednesday, one executive discussed the "future of cameras" in a company blog post, and suggested that we'll see camera advancements, too.
DongHoon Jang, Samsung's senior vice president and head of camera R&D, discussed in his blog post Samsung's progression from a 5-megapixel camera and a VGA front-facing camera in the Galaxy S, up to the 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel front-facing camera in the Galaxy S5. Jang noted that the company decided to add a 3.7-megapixel wide-angle lens to the Galaxy Note 4 in an effort to improve selfie shots, and he suggested we'll see similar advancements made with the Galaxy S6.
"The same passion and dedication has been put into building the cameras for the release of our 2015 flagship model," he explained. "It will be intelligent and do all the thinking for users, allowing them to take amazing pictures under any conditions, without having to worry about more than just pressing the shutter button. It will demonstrate just how far Samsung has advanced smartphone cameras, and once again will open the creative side of our users for new ideas and new possibilities. At Samsung, camera innovation continues."
DongHoon Jang also added that Samsung tests smartphone cameras by snapping more than 10,000 photos "in every imaginable lighting environment for analysis." On March 1, we'll find out just how far the company has progressed.
