Samsung announced the Galaxy S6 Edge on Sunday, its current cream of the crop smartphone. The creme-de-la-crem, if you will. It's loaded with all of the company's latest features, some of the best new hardware on the market and more. Plus, it has a few tricks up its sleeves that won't come with the Galaxy S6 thanks to the curves on the edges of the screen.
We already brought you our hands-on with the Galaxy S6 Edge, so let's take a look at some of the features that make it really stand out. Without further ado, here are the top 5 features of the Galaxy S6 Edge.
1. Curved Display
The curved display doesn't only look cool, it actually adds a lot of functionality to the Galaxy S6 Edge. You'll be able to swipe in from the side of the display to show a list of your favorite contacts, allowing you to quickly and easily send a text message or place a phone call. These contacts are color-coded, too, so when the phone is face down you'll see a slight glow along the edge showing you which person is calling. That's not all, it also works as an amazing bedside clock and so much more.
2. Metal and Glass body
Yep, Samsung finally ditched the plastic bodies for some real deal materials. That means an aluminum unibody design where the metal makes its way all around the phone, in addition to Gorilla Glass 4 glass panels on the front and back of the device. It's by far the most premium looking Galaxy S device ever, and the Gorilla Glass should help prevent it from shattering as easy as phones that don't have the latest glass. The green hue is definitely our favorite color.
3. Samsung Pay Support
Samsung Pay is set to launch this summer, and it's going to work with the Galaxy S6 Edge. That means you'll be able to use the embedded fingerprint reader to quickly make purchases at either magnetic stripe-based check-out terminals or using NFC. Samsung promises this is going to be more secure than actually using your card, and said it has the possibility to be supported at more than 30 million stores.
4. Gear VR
Yep, you read that correctly. Samsung is going to offer a new Gear VR Innovator Edition headset for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which means support is no longer limited to the Galaxy Note 4. That's great news if you want to kick back and watch a movie in a massive virtual movie theater, view 360-degree video from Milk VR and more, all using the power of your Galaxy S6 Edge. The new Gear VR is smaller, too, and supports USB charging in addition to other new features.
5. New fingerprint reader
Samsung ditched the "scanning" fingerprint technology on its older Galaxy devices for a real touch-based fingerprint reader that should work much more like Touch ID does. That means you'll be able to use your digits to make mobile payments with Samsung Pay, unlock your device by simply holding your finger on the home button and more. We hope it works well, because this is certainly one of our favorite features.
