Want something capable of keeping up with your rugged lifestyle? Samsung and AT&T just announced the Galaxy S5 Active, a device we’ve seen several photos of already. The Galaxy S5 Active, just like the Galaxy S4 Active that came before it, is exclusive to AT&T in the United States. Better yet, you can order it right now.
As we expected, the phone is resistant against water and dust and, thanks to its tank-like form factor, can easily withstand drops without being seriously damaged. The heart rate monitor is indeed still on the back of the phone, a nod to Samsung’s new focus on health, though the fingerprint sensor has been replaced by hardware buttons just below the screen.
Also as expected, Samsung packed the phone with a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display, a 16-megapixel camera and more. If you press a “convenience key” on the side of the Galaxy S5, you’ll also be able to launch specific apps for outdoor usage — presumably that can also be used to help snap underwater photos, but we’re not sure just yet.
The Galaxy S5 Active will retail for $199.99 with a new two-year contract in titanium gray, ruby red and camo green, but you can also pick it up with AT&T Next 18 for $27.50 per month or AT&T Next 12 for $35.75 per month.
