A mysterious new version of the Galaxy Note 8 has appeared in a new leak suggesting that Samsung may have some big plans for the model.
While we know the Galaxy Note 8 is on the way, a new set of images surfaced on SlashLeaks of a potential variant known as the 'Galaxy Note 8 AR'. The leak that appeared is labeled as:
SAMSUNG NOTE8 AR, (21MP/F1.7 MAIN LENS WITH COMPLETE AR SUPPORT SIMILAR TO ASUSZENFONEAR)
The leaker – who goes by the username IAMMULZIBANU – has a very brief track record having only joined the site on March 23, and having only posted three leaks so far, with the first two relating to the regular version of the Galaxy Note 8. There is no way to verify this leaker's track record as of yet since nothing he has posted has been officially revealed as of yet.
In short, we suggest you take this with a grain of salt.
With AR – the abbreviation for Augmented Reality – not being in the mainstream zeitgeist quite yet, it seems odd that Samsung would launch a variant of a phone that is already rumored to retail for close to $1,000. That feels like a recipe for failure. This isn't to say that AR won't take off some day, but one imagines it being more of an added bonus to a phone as opposed to the star feature.
For now this is a lot of fun to speculate over, but we're not holding our breath for the Galaxy Note 8 AR just quite yet.
The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to make its debut in August and release in the fall. For now, check out our gallery of speculative renders below for the upcoming flagship handset.
