Samsung's vice president of mobile recently confirmed in an interview with The Korea Times that Samsung will indeed announce its Galaxy Gear smartwatch during a press event on September 4. The device will apparently not pack one of Samsung's flexible displays, however, though it will communicate with smartphones — likely in a similar fashion to the Pebble smartwatch. The image above is a concept that uses a flexible display, so it seems like we won't get a device that looks anything like that.
"The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways," Lee Young-hee explained to The Korea Times. "It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry." She also told the news outlet that Samsung will indeed announce its Galaxy Note III smartphone and new services for its Note devices, though didn't expand on those comments.
Asked whether Samsung would be interested in acquiring all or part of BlackBerry, which is now considering a sale, Young-hee said that Samsung is not interested in any purchase of BlackBerry right now.
TechnoBuffalo will be reporting live from Samsung's press event on September 4 in Berlin during the IFA trade show. Stay tuned for our full coverage.
