Jason Vorhees returns to haunt our video game playtime this coming summer. You should have gone to summer camp instead! Friday the 13th: The Game is the horror icon’s first video game in over 30 years, and it now has a release date of May 26 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Friday the 13th: The Game was developed in collaboration between development studios Gun Media and IllFonic and many of the horror icons that created the movie franchise. This includes composer Harry Manfredini, director Sean S. Cunningham, designer Tom Savini, and actor Kane Hodder.
The game was pitched as an asymmetrical multiplayer game on Kickstarter and other backer websites, and it gained a grand total of over $2.1 million throughout the course of its development. One player controls Jason, and the rest of the players control random campers who try to avoid being brutally murdered during the night.
At least he’s not wearing purple spandex
I’m not quite sure what to make of this one. It looks like it could be a lot of fun with friends, but I’ve never been a huge fan of games that are exclusively multiplayer. I will say this though… it’s great that they didn’t go with Jason’s color scheme from the last time he was in a video game!
