Fortnite's Newest Item Will Put a Rift in Your Pocket

Brandon Russell

When Fortnite’s big rift in the sky disappears on Friday, a new item will allow players to put the phenomenon in their pocket.

According to IGN, and teased by Fortnite’s official Twitter account, a new item called “Rift-To-Go” will allow players to gain an edge on enemies by producing a rift anywhere they want.

The item will reportedly be available as early as the upcoming v5.30 update.

“A rift you carry in your pocket!” reads a prompt found in Fortnite’s in-game updates panel. “Teleport above your current location and glide down.”

Shake it up with a new item coming to Battle Royale in Patch v5.30.

Downtime starts tomorrow, August 23 at 4 AM ET (0800 GMT).

Rift-To-Go should allow players to escape tricky situations and easily get the drop on unsuspecting enemies. It’s unclear how the new item will work, so we’ll have to wait for an official demonstration once it goes live. In my mind, it will be similar to what happens in the movie Jumper, with a rift scar left over after a jump.

As part of the incoming update, Fortnite will be down on August 23 starting 4 a.m. ET.

Recently, a leak suggested the rift in Fortnite’s sky would disappear, only for the date to arrive without incident. Now, a new report claims a new event will occur this Friday, as players should see the big rift in the sky disappear for good.
