The fight between battle royale games PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite has been brewing for some time, but it seems the latter is separating itself in a key category: monthly revenue.

According to game analytics firm Superdata Research, Fornite grossed $126 million in revenue for the month of February. That handily beat out Battlegrounds’ $103 million take for the first time ever.

What makes Fornite’s victory so impressive is that it all came from in-game purchases. Epic Games, the developer of the game, does not charge for the game and instead makes its money with purchases made inside the game for character skins, emotes and other items. Battlegrounds, on the other hand, costs $30 through Steam, which is its main source of revenue. It also offers some in-game purchases, but it’s not to the same level of Fortnite’s offering.

With the victory in revenue, Fornite is continuing to assert itself as the go-to battle royale game. Revenue is one thing, but popularity is another, and in this area, Fortnite is winning by a landslide. That also goes back to the fact that it is offered for free on just about every platform (PC, PS4, Xbox One and iOS) making it super accessible for anyone. 

Battlegrounds is available on PC, Xbox One, iOS and Android, but like previously mentioned, the first two options will run you $30.

There’s also the huge shout out the game got with Ninja streaming some Fortnite rounds with Drake that broke Twitch’s streaming records. It’s been a very good year for Fortnite to say the least.
