Sometimes you mess up and you have to admit that you were wrong. Fortnite is doing just that by owning the major error it made in its shoddy implementation of the wildly overpowered Infinity Blade.
Epic Games announced a few days ago that it was going to add swords to Fortnite’s popular battle royale mode. The announcement was taken in stride by fans, but that quickly changed when the mythic item proved to be overpowered to the point that it shifted the competitive balance of matches.
Widespread criticism ensued and Epic announced that it made an error with how powerful the Infinity Blade was, especially in end game scenarios.
“We messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game,” Epic said. “The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items. Thanks for calling us out on this!”
Some of the inconsistent and unfair advantages the Infinity Blade gave players included the ability to nearly kill other plays with one hit and the ability to quickly destroy any built structure an opponent had built. This led to easy victories for players who used the blade at the end of games.
By putting the Infinity Blade into the Vault, Epic will remove the biggest advantage the game offered.
