The team over at CD Projekt Red is done with Geralt of Rivia and the Witcher games and has moved onto Cyberpunk 2077, a decidedly higher-tech setting. Designer Damien Monnier, it seems, wasn’t done with fantasy. Monnier left CD Projekt Red back in November, and has now announced that he’s joining Techland, the developer behind Dying Light and Dead Island, to work on a “new exciting IP” as lead designer.

“We’ve got really big ambitions for our next internally developed games, so people with ingenious new ideas as well as the skill and knowledge to bring them to life are absolutely essential,” Techland told Eurogamer.

Open-WorldRole Playing Fantasy

The new property Techland is working with hasn’t been announced, but Techland says the game is an open-world fantasy game with cooperative and multiplayer gameplay, as well as role-playing elements. As a designer on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Monnier helped bring one of the liveliest and most believable video game fantasy worlds yet to life, so the move seems well-suited. It doesn’t hurt that Techland is in Warsaw, Poland, where Monnier already lived while working with CD Projekt Red.

The game doesn’t have any kind of release time frame, but with Monnier helping bring it to life, I’m suddenly a lot more excited to check it out.
