Burnout Paradise

Criterion was, for a while, one of the most beloved studios working in gaming. The Burnout franchise was (and continues to be) a fan favorite. In a sea of car games, there's nothing quite like it.

Some members of the team, which was absorbed by EA, moved to EA's Ghost Games and are working on Need for Speed. Others, though, formed Three Fields Entertainment. Recently the Three Fields official Twitter gave us a hint of what we can look forward to in the developer's future.

"Two things," reads the first one. "Our first game is a multiplayer sports game. Coming Spring 2016. Then we make a driving game."

Here's where things get interesting:

If you ask the commenters replying to that second tweet, a successor to Burnout Paradise is the way to go. Except that one ruined it, says the next. Clearly Burnout 3. In other words, there's no consensus, and Three Fields isn't giving any hints as to which game they're focusing on.

Three Fields is an independent studio, so the cost of an open world game may be a difficult one to swallow. As VG247 notes, a lack of licensed cars helps keep costs down, but unless the studio can get backing from a big publisher, an open world game might be a bit tough.

Also, this game is at least three or four years away, so don't get too excited. But still get a little excited – this is big news for Burnout fans.
