Just a few days after the devices went on sale, Apple has acknowledged a small number of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus owners are experiencing an issue with the device’s earpiece. But don’t fret, as a planned update should eliminate the static noise noticed by users across the globe.

According to several reports, the crackling noises can be heard during phone calls. The noises, which allegedly occur intermittently and can’t be heard by the person on the other line, aren’t heard when using headphones or on speaker phone. There doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason behind why the issue is happening.

“We are aware of the issue which is affecting customers in a small number of cases,” an Apple spokesperson told The Verge. “Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release.”

Apple released an update—iOS 11.0.1—this week, so clearly the company is hard at work on improving the experience of iOS 11. It’s unclear how long it’ll take for Apple to fix the issue affecting its new iPhone models, but owners can likely expect something soon.

As soon as a new update for iOS 11 is available, we’ll be sure to let you know.
