At the Los Angeles Auto Show this week, displayed like a prized trophy, sat the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, a powerful, sophisticated monster that features over 600 horsepower. If speed is what you’re after, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63S is capable of going from 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. Blink, and you’ll miss it.

There are a few different iterations of the Mercedes-AMG, but the one you want is the 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which, as mentioned, features 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The “standard” E63 is still plenty fast, springing to life from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, a smidge slower than its more powerful brother.

Beyond its incredible power, the E63S features a Drift Mode, which comes standard on the E63S. It’s not a feature aimed at your average commuter, but kick off stability control, activate manual mode, and you’ll be drifting in no time.

Some of the technology included in the E63S is a “PRE-SAFE Sound” feature that will emits a “pink noise” when it senses an impending crash. According to Mercedes, this will trigger your ears’ natural defense against the loud noises of an accident.

The exterior has been restyled to match the muscle under the hood. The front end is new, for example, with wide fenders that house the large wheels and tires. On the rear, there’s a spoiler that juts out, while quadruple exhaust pipes sit below the rear bumper.

U.S. sales are expected to kick off next summer, with the E63S Edition 1 coming in a slick color called Designo Night Black Magno.
