HTC Radar in hand front

HTC just unveiled the new HTC Radar at an event here in London. This is one of the company’s first devices to be powered by the new Windows Phone 7 Mango platform, and although this isn’t as ‘high-end’ as the HTC TITAN — which was also unveiled at the event — it’s still a beauty.

I know what you’re thinking. Looks familiar, doesn’t it? That’s because a press image for the device was leaked online last week, but the device was previously known as the HTC Omega.

If you’ve read my previous posts, you’ll know I’m a big fan of white devices. And when they’re combined with super sturdy aluminum, you’ve got a handset guaranteed to get me drooling. As soon as I picked up the Radar, its impressive build quality is instantly noticeable. Its aluminum shell makes it feel incredibly strong and durable, and kind of like a miniature version of the HTC Flyer tablet.

HTC Radar back

The Radar features a 1GHz processor backed up by 512MB of RAM, which is by no means cutting-edge by today’s standards, but it certainly doesn’t feel slow. When navigating menus, taking photos and video, and using different apps, the Radar was wonderfully smooth, and there was certainly no noticeable wait times.

You also get a stunning 3.8-inch SLCD display, with a resolution of 480 x 800, and a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash that takes really good quality photos. Just like the TITAN, the Radar features all of HTC’s exclusive Windows Phone features, such as HTC Watch, an app that puts the latest TV shows and movies at your fingertips; and the HTC Photo Enhancer, which allows you to add cool effects to your images and shoot panoramas without the need for third-party applications.

For me, the Radar might not be the fastest or most advanced of HTC’s new devices, but it’s certainly the best looking handset. If you think the TITAN’s a little too big for you, or it’s a little too pricey when it launches, then the Radar is an awesome alternative.
