Nintendo is holding a super-secret Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct presentation tomorrow, but some nosey fans out there already think they have found the reason for it. The eagle-eyed gamers over at NeoGAF found an interesting source code on Nintendo’s official website site which reads “Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation for Nintendo Switch.”
The port makes sense. Fire Emblem Fates was a huge critical success for Nintendo, and it also made a lot of money thanks to its confusing payment plans. I doubt it will ask players to cough up money for all three campaign again, so if we do see a port tomorrow, it is likely to be a sort of “Definitive Edition.”
If not, then pro-tip: Conquest is the best of the three campaigns by far.
Nintendo already confirmed that the Nintendo Switch would be getting Fire Emblem Heroes, an Omega Force action game based on the franchise, during last week’s presentation. The company is also hard at work bringing the series to mobile platforms alongside Animal Crossing.
The Nintendo Direct is set for tomorrow, Jan. 18, at 5:00 p.m. EST/2:00 p.m. PT.
Fire Emblem has life once again
The Fire Emblem series was once left for dead on the side of the road, but its recent success over the last two games on Nintendo 3DS, not to mention a card game in Japan, have revived the series.
I’m not sure how keen Nintendo is on it, but the vast majority of North Americans still have not played any of the Famicom or Super Famicom games. Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem and Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Fire Emblem 3 and 4 chronologically, are often seen as classics of the genre by those who have played them.
We’d all like to have a chance one day at legitimately playing them, Nintendo. How about letting the series ride this recent success and get a chance to explain a legacy we’ve never seen?
And if that’s not possible, then at least put the first Game Boy Fire Emblem game on Virtual Console.
