We're big fans of Nintendo's latest Strategy RPG, Fire Emblem: Awakening, around here, so any news of it expanding into a bigger experience is good news.
Following in the footsteps of the first DLC bundle, Champions of Yore, Nintendo has released a video detailing four more upcoming DLC packs, the Lost Bloodlines, the Golden Pack, the Smash Pack, and the Rogue Pack. Both bundles will hold three original maps which can be purchase for $3 each or $6 for all three in a single go.
The Golden Pack is one I will most likely avoid. The three maps provide nothing in terms of new characters or content, but rather they are just a grinding zone designed to reward gamers with more gold and experience for their troubles. My characters already progress at a decent enough rate, so I don't see myself purchasing this one any time soon, unless the Silver Card reward from Chapter 3 proves valuable.
On the other hand, the meat and potatoes of Fire Emblem: Awakening's DLC comes in the form of true map packs. The other three all fall in line with these categories. These missions provide plenty of challenge and square Chrom and his friends off against armies comprising of characters from past Fire Emblem games. The rewards are much better with special bonuses like new characters, new job classes, new skills, and huge stat boosting items.
Still no word from Nintendo on the Hot Spring of Bonds map pack though which sends all the characters on a vacation to a hot spring resort. That is a day one purchase.
Fire Emblem: Awakening is available exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. It can be purchased both on retail and through the Nintendo 3DS eShop.
