Final Fantasy XV might be the most bonkers and bombastic video game on the market these days, but even it has its limits. We’ve just seen the first of these restraints go up with Director Hajime Tabata confirming that a bit of news from earlier this week is actually not true.
That news is the file size, which leaked to the public at 170GB. I did a lot of poking around after seeing that number and found that the largest PC games up until now have hovered at around 66 or 70 GB. Call of Duty Infinite Warfare sits at a fairly large 130 GB and Gears of War 4, with all of its DLC added into it, actually beats Final Fantasy XV at a staggering 350 GB!
WHOA!
But even so, at over twice the size of the likes of DOOM and Grand Theft Auto V, Final Fantasy XV won’t be able to add this feather to its hat now that Tabata has shot down the leak. Speaking to Kotaku Australia, he called it a “communications mistake.”
That was a mistake, actually. That was a communications mistake – something got put in a memo that really shouldn’t have. What that is [the specifications that went out to press] based on the specs that we’re running the demo on today.
He further stressed that the game’s required specs have not been cemented yet,.
“Someone put that in there and it got reported as the recommended specs, but that’s not the final fixed version. The fact that it became that number is a communication [error].
No, Final Fantasy XV deserves the crown!
Well, the final results are not in yet, but Final Fantasy XV certainly has left its mark on the video game world in terms of excess. Excess development time, excess gameplay modes, excess spin-offs and mobile games, excess ideas, mechanics, and in-game advertisements. It only seems fair that it should be able to take up excess space in your hard drive as well!
Instead, we’ll have to settle for the gorgeous PC version revealed at Gamescom 2017 and even look forward to the goofy, mobile game Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition and potential Switch port.
