Square Enix has announced that its rebuilt MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, has just passed the 2 million registered users mark. The announcement comes after the game launched on the PlayStation 4, making it available on three platforms along with the PlayStation 3 and PC.
Square Enix had been counting on the game to become a hit after it fell upon some financial issues last year due to under-performing sales of Western developed games. Luckily, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is proving to be very popular with fans of the series, and hopefully Square Enix can learn from this lesson that it's best to maybe just stick to what you are good at.
I just started playing this week, and I'll be sure to give you my thoughts once I put in enough hours to give it a good judgement. So far, I am in love with the presentation and setting. Searching for crystals and destined to become a Warrior of Light? When did Final Fantasy becomes so "Final Fantasy" again? I need to see a bit more character depth before being totally sold on the RPG elements, but it's enjoyable and hardly the brutal grind that Final Fantasy XI was.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is currently available for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. If you already picked up the game for the PlayStation 3, then Square Enix is allowing you to upgrade for free to the PlayStation 4 version. Patch 2.2 "Through the Maelstrom" just added a new chapter, and this train just keeps on rolling. Could we be seeing the next MMORPG hit?
