Square Enix brought Final Fantasy VII Remake along with it to MAGIC 2017 in Monaco, France, this past weekend, and it showed off two new screenshots for the first time in over a year!
And the screenshots’ content should be familiar to anyone who has ever played the game, even at a casual level. The first boss that Cloud and Barret stumble across is a giant robot scorpion who will mess you up if you attack while his tail is raised. Given Square Enix’s commitment to capturing the original game, chances are this will remain an important focal point in this version as well.
As for the other screenshot, it shows Cloud crouching behind a crate and ducking fire from an incoming Shinra soldier. It doesn’t reveal much, but I have a horrible hypothesis from it anyway. Anyone who has played Final Fantasy XV can’t help but feel that Cloud looks an awful lot like Noctis here.
What if this ends up being just a reskin with Final Fantasy VII’s characters and story on top? Will the Square Enix fans ever live that down?
Nomura wanted to show a whole trailer, Square Enix said “No”
Siliconera era also says that Director Tetsuya Nomura wanted to show off a full-fledged trailer and not just a few screenshots, but the head office shut him down. Why? We don’t know yet, but my guess is that Square Enix doesn’t want to have another Final Fantasy XIII Versus situation on its hands.
Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released on the PlayStation 4.
