As we eagerly await the gorgeous face-lift of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, we are also eagerly awaiting the chance to play the included demo of Final Fantasy XV. The game is scheduled to be released on March 17, and it has always been assumed that the demo would be released on the same day. However, that might not exactly be the case.

In a Reddit AMA, Director Hajime Tabata couldn’t dive too deeply into the release date of the demo, but he did mention that it might not be ready for the time for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD‘s launch. Looks like you’ll just have to play the game you paid for instead.

That’s fine, because Final Fantasy Type-0 HD still looks marvelous, and should be enough to stand on its own feet rather than act as a just a placeholder until Final Fantasy XV comes out. A batch of new screenshots shows off more of the exciting combat, and the classic summon monsters Bahamut and Ifrit even shows up! We get dual pistols, robots, magic, angsty teenagers, and our M.Bison lookalike villain even turns up for the show!

Go back to your own franchise!

Tabata also claimed that Final Fantasy XV‘s infamous car was pulled from the demo because he didn’t want people to think this was a driving game. You have to wonder if time constraints also played a part in that decision.

Final Fantasy Type 0-HD will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 17.
