Square Enix is coming back to the North American Nintendo 3DS after skipping the entirety of 2015. Its multiplayer-focused Monster Hunter inspired Final Fantasy Explorers has been confirmed for release on Jan. 26, 2016.

Final Fantasy Explorers has over 20 classic Final Fantasy job classes to master and plenty of missions to conquer with friends. In addition to the job classes, characters can morph into Final Fantasy’s most recognizable faces as Limit Breaks. Cloud, Squall, Yuna, Sephiroth, and plenty of the series’ most familiar characters are available to wreck havoc on enemies.

The world is on the brink of war over its reserves of crystals, the planet’s chief source of power. Players must band together to form an elite squad of Explorers on an island rich in crystals, braving hordes of monsters in hopes of conquering a newly discovered Grand Crystal – every Explorer’s dream.

I went hands-on with Final Fantasy Explorers last year at Tokyo Game Show 2014, but left not being so impressed. However, I only played it single player, possibly missing the entire point of the game. With friends, it could be a blast, but that’s only if you like that sort of thing. I’m not big on multiplayer these days.

Final Fantasy Explorers will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on Jan. 26, 2016.
