I'm not sure if most of you readers will be able to relate to this, but I can remember playing a ton of both NBA Street and NBA Street Vol. 2 from EA Sports BIG several years ago. I never actually tried the soccer equivalent of the franchise, but I remember sinking hours upon hours into the NBA line. It was good, silly fun.

With the trailer above, EA Sports is showing off what kind of style FIFA Street will re-kindle with this brand relaunch. Sid Misra, producer of this new FIFA Street title for EA, spoke about it and its connection to the entries before it to GameStop a while back:

"This is a reboot of the FIFA Street franchise, so what you know of FIFA Street 12 and 3, you can forget about it. What we really wanted to do is come out with the first truly great street football experience. There hasn't been one yet. FIFA Street 12 and 3 barely tried, they came out kinda good and then a little bit into the experience, people kinda lost interest. So we wanted really to create a game that had that depth that was missing in the games of the past."

With the upcoming February launch of SSX and this brand new take on the FIFA Street franchise, EA Sports looks like they're making a return to the extreme and style-based genre of sports gaming. That's a slice of the industry that I would have labelled "dead" only a few months ago, and I'll say that I'm glad it may be seeing a resurgence.

FIFA Street will launch for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms on March 13th of this year in North America. Will you give the Street brand another try?
