Fez, the indie gem all about collection, puzzle solving and old school gaming, is about to release for the PC platform by way of Steam. This game was initially an Xbox LIVE Arcade exclusive that sold for $10. The announcement for this launch happened this morning on Twitter.

Here's the tweet from Polytron, the small studio behind Fez:

FEZ IS COMING TO STEAM ON MAY 1ST http://store.steampowered.com/app/224760/

Of course, this news comes with a little bit of a side story. There was a time when Phil Fish, the creator of Fez, said that this one would never be anything but a console game. It felt like such a perfect fit for the PC platform, but Fish was adamantly against it. Here's a tidbit from an interview with Fish conducted by NowGamer:

"Fez is a console game, not a PC game..It's made to be played with a controller, on a couch, on a Saturday morning. To me, that matters; that's part of the medium. I get so many comments shouting at me that I'm an idiot for not making a PC version. 'You'd make so much more money! Can't you see? Meatboy sold more on Steam!' Good for them. But this matters more to me than sales or revenue. It's a console game on a console. End of story."

Well, that was then, this is now. Fez will be a PC game on May 1st as it launches on Steam. Phil Fish confirmed during today's AMA on Reddit that Fez will also be ported to Mac, but that version does not have an official launch date just yet.
