After years of kicking and screaming from Western fans, Nintendo has finally decided to grace them with Fatal Frame 5 for the Wii U. During this week’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata confirmed that the cult classic horror franchise would finally be given another shot in the West.

We’re still waiting for a confirmed subtitle, and there seems to be debate over the accurate translation.

Nintendo, who owns a large portion of Koei Tecmo’s Fatal Frame series, resisted calls to localize the two entries on the Wii, leaving fans to worry about the future of the series in America. However, it seems Nintendo wants to attract all audiences to the Wii U and needs a nice horror hit.

Like most games in the excellent franchise, Fatal Frame 5 puts players in control of a Japanese female stuck in a horrific supernatural situation. Her only defense against the damned spirits is a magical camera which traps their spirits within the frames of a photo. The Wii U is special in that it allows the Wii pad to double as a camera.

Yes, Fatal Frame 5 is indeed coming to the United States. Anything can happen, folks! Maybe even Dragon Quest VII!
