Facebook on Wednesday rolled out a feature borrowed directly from enemy territory. Any person or brand with a substantial presence on the social network now gets a verified badge for a bit more authenticity. Now you'll know that any account with that little blue badge is more important that one without; we should all strive for social media verification.

At the start, celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses will get that little badge of honor. Just like Twitter, there's no way to request for a verification; Facebook will come to you should you be deemed worthy. As of now, it's unclear what qualifies someone as verified other than sheer popularity.

The little blue badges will start showing up in search results, on pages themselves and other areas throughout the site. With other social networking sites such as Google+ and Twitter issuing verified social reinforcement, it was only a matter of time before Facebook hopped onboard.
