Maybe we'll soon be able to post status updates with our voices, or maybe Facebook has bigger plans. The firm recently acquired a speech recognition firm named wit.ai, according to a report from Reuters on Monday. The acquisition may point to the new endeavors Facebook is planning in the future.

As Reuters notes, wit.ai currently works on voice recognition technology that's applied to "wearable devices and Internet-connected appliances." Facebook does also own Oculus, and it seems plausible that the tech could be embedded in that virtual reality product. Imagine launching a game with your voice, for example. But it also might mean Facebook is at least considering a different wearable of some sort.

Keep in mind, however, that voice recognition is already used in a variety of products from the Xbox One to Google Now to Android Wear and Siri. The possibilities for what Facebook could do with wit.ai seem rather endless.
