I've ranted and raved enough about the Etrian Odyssey games over the past few years, and now is your chance to see why for free! Atlus has confirmed that Etrian Odyssey II Untold: The Fafnir Knight will be getting a demo on July 14 through the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

The series has always had solid demos with exclusive missions, items that can be carried over into the main games, and completely transferable character data, providing a little more incentive than just a free, early look into a fabulous game. Don't miss out on seeing why this is one of the best RPG franchises out there these days.

A new trailer also describes the Protector job class, and Atlus has the rundown. You might not guess it, but these Protectors have high defense.

The Protector's skills are incredibly useful – early on they get abilities that boost a line's defense, and skills to protect against elemental damage. They also can provoke enemies into attacking them, and even retaliate with shield attacks. And while Bertrand and Protectors are quite good at soaking up damage, they even have some abilities to heal themselves and allies as well.

Protectors do have support and a few offensive skills, but their skillset leans overwhelmingly towards defense, so they're probably best left to the tank role.

Etrian Odyssey II Untold: The Fafnir Knight launches on Aug. 4 for the Nintendo 3DS.
