Electronics Arts is currently hard at work on bringing its powerful Frostbite graphics engine to iOS and Android mobile devices in a new version called Frostbite Go.
Currently, Frostbite 2 is used to power many of EA's biggest franchises. Battlefield 3 and Need for Speed: The Run both launched its popularity after their graphics wowed critics, and currently Frostbite 3 has been confirmed to power Battlefield 4 as well as BioWare's Dragon Age 3: Inquisition and Mass Effect follow-up.
With graphical powerhouses like that to match up to, this little mobile version has big boots to fill. Frostbite's webpage describes Frostbite Go as "one of its most exciting current projects" and says it's "a mobile division empowering EA game developers with Frostbite's proven excellent workflows and features to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms."
EA has already confirmed that Frostbite will not make its way to the Wii U, but the mobile market is currently too large for them to pass on.
This exciting development has the Frostbite engine going head to head with the Unreal Engine in yet another marketplace. Who will emerge victorious here?
More to come on Frostbite Go as it is available.
