Amazon hasn’t had stock of the original Echo Dot for months, and now we know why. The company unveiled a second-generation Echo Dot on Tuesday with a much more affordable price tag and improved voice recognition.

The new Echo Dot, available in black or white and with a slightly changed design, will sell for just $49.99 when it launches in the U.S. on October 20. It’s so affordable compared to the previous model that Amazon plans to sell multi-packs of the Echo Dot 2nd generation so that folks can outfit every room in the house with one. Amazon will sell a six pack (buy 5 get 1 free) and a 12 back (buy 10 get 2 free.)

And if you’re speaking around the house, new Echo Spatial Perception (ESP) technology will allow Echo and Dot units to work together so that only one device answers your query.

Voice recognition improvements aside, I love the new price of the Amazon Echo Dot. If you don’t own an Echo product yet, you’re missing out on some fantastic tech.
