EA wants its own massive open world title. It doesn’t have anything like Assassin’s CreedBatman: Arkham or Grand Theft Auto, and the execs that helm the company think they’re missing out.

Speaking with IGN, EA Executive Vice President Patrick Soderlund talked about EA’s missing piece.

“If you look at the biggest segment in our industry, which is action, we don’t have a lot…EA is not known to make gigantic action games like Assassin’s Creed or Batman or GTA or those types of games that are really big.

The strategic direction that we put in motion is to expand our portfolio more into that segment, to see what can we bring to gamers that maybe hasn’t been done before.”

If you follow the world of gaming news, you know EA’s made some big hires over the last six months or so. One of them was Jade Raymond, one of the key members of Ubisoft who brought the Assassin’s Creed franchise to life. IGN asked if that hire was a part of their choice to make an open world action game.

Soderlund wouldn’t respond to that directly, though he did add this:

“You need a leadership and people that have done this in the best and they’ve done it successfully in the past. That, coupled with a large ambition to invest in new IP. We want to. We’re building a lot of new IPs today but we want to invest more money into new IP.”

EA wants to crack into the open world action game segment of gaming. Raymond could be huge on that front. Do you want these types of games from the company?
