Warner Bros.’ It movie has apparently scared the pants off select media who go to see an advanced screening ahead of the movie’s September 8 release. And, at least based on social media reactions, the film is “scary as shit.”
Based on Stephen King’s beloved 1986 novel, the film follows seven pre-teens in Derry, Maine, who are terrorized by an entity known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. As if his appearance wasn’t terrifying enough, he has the ability to shape shift, manipulate, and go completely unnoticed by adults. He was portrayed by Tim Curry in the 1990 miniseries.
Several journalists say the movie is “bone-chilling” and features “incredible scares.” It would seem fans of the property, and horror films in general, will not be disappointed.
Surprisingly, It also sounds like it’s really funny, with The Losers stealing the show. “The Losers are perfection,” said Collider writer Haleigh Foutch. “Great cast, surprisingly funny,” said The Nerdist’s Dan Casey.
So, there you have it. If you were on the fence about the upcoming adaptation, it sounds like you have nothing to worry about. Review embargoes apparently break on September 5, with the movie to release on September 8.
Below you can check out some of the positive reactions from the early screenings.
