Maybe not so much with the millions of people who buy it every year, but Madden NFL has been struggling with a bit of an image problem over the last several years with gamers. Current generation technology has not seen enough of a technological boost to allow them to advance the series forward beyond slight tweaks, but with the power of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, all that is about to change.
EA Sports has released a new trailer show off the game's new graphical features. From lighting effects on human sweat to how clothing rubs the skin. Even each player's face is shaped individually, each blade of grass has more texture, and even 4000 individual models for the gaming spectators have been made. Everything about this game has been built from the ground up and pushed further than the team has ever gone before.
Far and away the most impressive animation shown was the Lambeau Leap with Packers receiver Randal Cobb jumping into the audience. I had to watch that bit several times to make sure they didn't splice real footage in with the animation. And Peyton Manning looks absolutely frightening with no pupils.
It's an excellent trailer that has me stoked to give Madden a decent try for the first time in over a decade, but EA still seems intent on making the phrases "Gen. 3" and "Gen. 4" a thing. Nice try, guys. Gamers know better.
Madden NFL 25 is already available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be released on November 15th and November 22nd respectively with the consoles' launch.
