Earlier today Verizon invited press to a DROID launch event in New York City, and now it’s inviting everyone to anticipate the release together with a countdown clock that’s live on its website. The clock counts down to Oct. 28, the same day as its press event, suggesting the device might be on sale immediately after its unveiling.

Verizon doesn’t reveal much more about the device, though the countdown page shows the outline of a phone that looks pretty similar to the red plastic DROID Turbo that Verizon leaked earlier this month. Thankfully, we already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the Turbo thanks to a steady stream of leaks.

Rumor has it the DROID Turbo will come equipped with a 5.2-inch QHD display, a Snapdragon 805 processor, a massive 3900mAh battery, 3GB of RAM and a 21-megapixel camera. It’s likely to run a near stock version of Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box with some of Motorola’s own software on top. We’re also expecting Google to unveil Android L in the near future, so it’s entirely possible the DROID Turbo could be one of the first phones to ship running the latest version of Android.

We’ll know everything for sure in just two weeks.
