When we venture into space in video games, it’s usually in something small, fast, and decidedly airplane-like in configuration. Yager Interactive’s Dreadnought goes a very different direction. If you’ve ever wanted to take charge of a massive space cruiser, Dreadnought is your poison. And now, it’s out in open beta on PC, free to anyone who wants to try it out.
Here’s Yager’s official line on the game:
Dreadnought puts players in command of massive capital ships on the front lines of tactical team battles across a variety of competitive online multiplayer modes. Captains must master their vessels and work together to succeed, utilizing their team’s strengths while exploiting the enemy’s weaknesses. There are more than 50 playable ships, spread across five distinct classes, that players can choose from to build their fleets. From close-quarters combat to long-range assault and strategic support, each vessel is designed to bring unique specializations to the fight and can be further customized with an array of weapons, modules, coatings and decals.
The game will be free-to-play, and the beta has cosmetics, experience boosters, and “hero ships” available for purchase. The beta also features a new map the team says is its biggest yet, taking place above Saturn’s moon Titan and an orbital ring surrounding it.
This is a class-based shooter
When we think of class-based shooters, we usually think of stuff like Overwatch or Team Fortress 2. Here, the classes are defined by ships instead of characters, with five classes and fifty ships across those. Each ship has specializations within, too. This game could offer a ton of depth to those willing to dive in. The game is also in closed beta on PlayStation 4. You can sign up for the PS4 closed beta here, or join the PC open beta here.

Use a chess clock to keep track of move and play times
These chess clocks feature dual clocks for players to control their own timers, and loud alarms so everyone knows when time is up. These clocks can be used for other 2-person games, like checkers, that may benefit from a game timer.
